‘Little Brocco-Lily’
Little Brocco-Lily was a very kind and caring young broccoli. She was so sweet that all the Brocco-boys wanted to meet her and all the other Brocco-girls wanted to be her. Every morning, little Brocco-Lily would wake up and drink from a stream nearby and wonder why her sprouts were so green. One day, she opened up her sprouts in the same way that all broccolis do.
She was surprised to find that some of the other broccolis were looking at her. It was unusual for them to be up so early, as she was normally one of the first, if not the first, to be up.
And, how did they know what time it was? Well, by the rays of the sun, of course.
You see, it’s much like our clocks or watches, only broccolis tell their time by the way the tall trees cast their shadows on the ground.
Little Brocco-Lily was doing her usual morning ritual of waking up, brushing her bristles, and soaking up the sun, when she remembered something she’d forgotten about completely. She had always wanted, or so she thought, to turn into a tree one day.
How could a broccoli ever turn into a tree, right? Well, haven’t you always thought they look like baby trees anyway?
The main difference though, is that one is ten feet tall or more, and the other one, (the broccoli, if you didn’t already guess by now) is about ten centimetres, or less.
Now, this may all come as a bit of a surprise to you, and no, this is not a story about size, colour, or height, or anything like that. This is the story of how one little Brocco-Lily, wanted to become a tree one day, or so she thought. Although, what she didn’t understand, was that it actually took many thousands of years for trees to grow, and it only took a few weeks or months sometimes even, for a broccoli to grow its sprouts.
One thing you should know, young boys and girls, is that if you’ve ever wanted to be something else, or even like someone else, then you’ve probably not been feeling too good about yourself now, have you?
Because, how can you really know who you are if you’re always comparing yourself to something or someone else, right? There was a man once, who said: “Be yourself, because everyone else is taken”. I like this.
Little Brocco-Lily, knew that she was amazing, but always seemed to forget it. Maybe it was because of how everyone else treated her sometimes, or maybe, it was because she just simply forgot. Either way, it’s okay. We won’t forget though, will we? We can do her a favour, everyone, and remember how amazing we all are, so that Little Brocco-Lily can remember how fantastic she is. Good idea?
For, how can you forget how amazing you are, when you’re so brilliant that everyone else can see it, but you? That’s just a bit silly now, isn’t it? Why wouldn’t you want to remember, every single day, how awesome and wonder-full you really are? Wouldn’t this world be such a much better place, if everyone knew and remembered to live each day like the amazing broccolis (and people!) that they and we all are?
Little Brocco-Lily was so very sweet and special, that she did her best to make everyone else feel how great and special they were too.
More importantly, she was also so kind and caring that she set out to make her every day, and her every way, as full-filling, fun, loving and enjoyable as she possibly could.
The End.
